| So, you want to roleplay, huh?
Well, as it so happens.... so do we. So just how exactly does one roleplay? Well, let's break it into two sections. General
Roleplay in general can be a lot of different things. It can be as simple as just adding action tags into a chat or text (known here as "action roleplay"), or it can be more complex, like a story written by multiple authors governed by imagination... and a common ruleset made by a forum owner (known here as "forum roleplay.") Here at The Legend's Guild, we don't really care which you use, but, as a general rule, check the title or the description of a roleplay to figure out what type of roleplay you are entering, and make sure that you're posting the right type of message for the roleplay that you're in. Moving on, these rules should be followed on a general note. They apply to this entire forum, regardless of roleplay, but they typically do not affect the actual gameplay, as that can change from roleplay to roleplay.
- Be respectful to your fellow roleplayers. We're all here to have fun, yeah? Every one of us comes from a different background, with different roleplaying experience. If there is a problem with this, please PM myself or a Moderator. If there is an inexperienced roleplayer in your midst, POLITELY direct them to the help center, where they can get pointers on how to roleplay or ask for assistance, etc.
- If you have a question, ask for help. No one is going to hate you for life if you ask for help, criticism, or how to do something - however, make sure you've read through all the pertinent forums first, just to see if your question has been answered already.
- Have fun. And read the topic-specific rules, and you'll do just fine, yo.
Forum Specific Rules
Now let's talk about this particular forum. This forum is where roleplays can be created and enjoyed (YAY! ). You can either choose to join a pre-existing roleplay (read the rules and how to apply, do so, and jump right in), or if you feel a little creative, start your own to add to the collection. Now, if you start your own, you're free to make your own rules and such, however, there are some basic guidelines to that you'll need to follow while making your roleplay. First, everything on this site needs to stay nonsexual. None of that hanky-panky stuff. I don't mind you hinting towards it, even using timeskips and 'fade-out' techniques. But, when ya start posting that smut, it's a * little* too far. Second, you need to specify what type of roleplay it's going to be. Give a good name, description of the world (or city, or home, or whatever, etc.) you're roleplaying in, and give everyone their options. What races can they be, what does the story look like so far? Can they be evil or good? Do they get super powers? That kinda thing. If you need help creating a roleplay, see the help section or message me or any of the content creators. And that's it. Create your own specific rules, but know that you still fall under all the forum rules and under the moderator's jurisdiction, but we're not tyrannical. Mostly just remember to be respectful and keep ya clothes on, and we'll be okay. :3

| Example of action roleplays: - John wrote:
- *seeing a cage up ahead, John cautiously steps forward, readying a key he just got from joining this roleplay* Hmm, this is the only place I can go... I reckon this key might work the lock.
- Abby wrote:
- ~Oh no.~ Abby thought to herself. ~This isn't good. I need to warn him that-~ "IT'S A TRAP!" She shouts, finishing her thought in response to the footsteps that she heard.
- Ackbar wrote:
- Argh, Abby! That was my line! -flips table-
These are examples of "active" roleplays. They mostly rely on action tags ( -, *, ~, {}, +, etc.) to tell what the characters are doing. Now let's take a look at the same situation, done in "forum" style. - John wrote:
- John doesn't know what day it is. He doesn't know where he is. He's not even sure that he's John anymore. All that John knows is, he can only see in one direction - forward. And ahead of him, there is a cell door. He's not sure where he got the key that he's holding in his hand, or why someone is narrating his thoughts right now, but he has to find out.
He starts moving forward, reaching the door with caution. He tries the key in the lock - a perfect fit. He gives it a turn, and after a few hard tries, the heavy iron lock slides with the turning of the key, and he pushes the cell door open. He then steps into the cell to have a look around. - Abby wrote:
- Listening to the approaching footsteps, Abby wonders who this person is and why they would ever approach this cage. While they are immune to the invisible plague-monsters that inhabit the cell, they are the only ones in the world who are. She then feels the urge to cry out to them, that they mustn't open the door - but it's too late. She watches as he walks in, unable to speak for shock.
- Ackbar wrote:
- Ackbar raises his head from the dirty stone floor, and smiles ruefully at the man, not caring if he has seen the two inhabitants or not. "It's a trap, son. IT'S A TRAP."
- (Game Moderator, response to the posts that need moderation) wrote:
- To John, Abby, and Ackbar:
John would look around and see that the room was not empty - there is a woman and an alien creature in the room. Suddenly, John feels very, very weak, and Abby can feel both of the plague-monsters moving past her towards the astonished man, and even though she can't see them, she knows that they have risen their vile bodies over his now fainting body, waiting for their fast-acting plague to finish him. The last thing John knows is that.... it was a trap.
Action roleplays and forum roleplays are both very similar, and can be played similarly - however, the writing style changes drastically, and that is what makes them both different from each other. Just, keep in mind that you should check the preferred writing style of the roleplay you are joining, and that you use it for consistency, or you might be removed from the roleplay (or you might not be, who knows?).
